Inscrutable | By Jeremy Logan
Eli Taylor runs Daneli. He and Victor Majeski, who starred in THE RUBIK MEMORANDUM, take a back seat to Erica Hunter, the chief claims investigator, in INSCRUTABLE. The novels in this trilogy have a lot of things in common – the lead characters, conspiracies, and most of all – a deception. The deceptions have a commonality, don’t assume anything. The disasters Daneli responds to are never what they appear to be. And the villains never expect Eli, Vic and Erica to be a match for their cunning.
This a story of greed, revenge and deceit. An explosion starts out looking like a typical mechanical failure on a gas pipeline. Two people are killed. The operator of the pipeline is suspicious that the cause wasn’t so typical, so he hires Eli Taylor and his company of sleuths to investigate. Settlement of claims is Erica Hunter’s specialty, and as she investigates their validity, she smells a rat. Victor Majeski, who investigates the causes of the disasters and is the chief conspiracy advocate in the firm, also suspects that the cause wasn’t an accident.
The problem is who would do such a thing, and why. Whatever it is, it feels big and dangerous to Daneli. Mysterious murders of key witnesses keep occurring, and nothing seems to add up. The most diabolical of masterminds is soon matching wits with Erica and Vic, as they become targets as well. The two sides are on a collision course where one side is doomed to destruction.
